CAF: fitness test

So I arrived at the parking lot. I had no idea how long the entire session would take so I fed the meter five 30min periods.

I was first to arrive by the wooden side gates. Soon 3 more gathered. I initiated a quick chat with all of them out of boredom. Two uni students and one high school senior; two male and one female; two interested in combat arms and one interested in med tech.

Right at 7:45am Recruiting Officer McBride came outside and lined us up according to the attendance list against the fence. I was the third in line. We handed over the required documentation as indicated by the email.

Inside the building an on-site medic measured blood pressure: mine read 120 / 80. Then we went over to the middle of the gym in front of our assigned pair of sandbags and filled out more forms following McBride’s directions. Upon completion, McBride began explaining each test component while another officer demonstrated. Pretty standard stuff found in the Youtube Vid.

After a quick washroom break and practice period we commenced the test. Everything was in the order of attendance list.

1) Sandbag Lift went easier than I prepared for. I completed it iin 1:26 min. I was out of breath at the end because I tried to perform faster than what I did at home.

2) For the drag, I figured the best strategy was to lower myself center of gravity as much as possible to maximize the horizontal tensile force component. Then I took quick mini steps with feet close together to prevent any break in motion. I finished in 1:26 min.

By this time, the girl had a quick chat with the Officer and was sent home. I don’t think there was anything she could’ve done because the body mass of an average 5ft girl couldn’t fool physics.

3) Suicide: Everytime I got up, I felt I was bitch slapping the floor. And everytime I sprinted and stopped I felt I should lose weight even if it was only for a more convenient inertia. I finished in 43 seconds.

4) Loaded shuffle was done simultaneously for all candidates. I think we all went for the fireman’s carry. I alternated between right and left shoulder carry and minimized the load on any of my arms. I stepped on the gas on the last run to come in second.

The test was complete. After cleaning and loading the sandbags on a cart, the remaining candidates went inside a classroom for debrief and paperwork check with Latta. There wasn’t much for me left to do since I had already sent an electronic copy so I met with Medic Snook-Wong scheduled my medical exam.

Before leaving, I had to take a photo of the CN Tower visible outside the Armoury window.

I got in my car at 9:46am, a minute before ticket expiry.
