vl: insurance and registration

Insurance hassle:

I bought a van, had all insurance forms signed, and did all errands that were requested (i.e. pictures, safety cert) over multiple trips to the seller’s garage. At the end of the process which spanned over a week, the managing owner rejects my application and the sales rep informs me that the company can no longer honour the personal vehicle quote I’ve signed onto since they’ve discovered that the van is statistically used for commercial purposes. The sales rep had made an error that I was only informed of at the very end, which I found completely forgivable.

But talking to the company owner had me steam.

My family had been loyal clients and had multiple cars insured with them for several years. Yet there was no compromise, no concessions: just a curt “no” or “no, why should I do that” to every one of my suggestions to correct this mishap. He chuckled a couple times over the call, and when I was trying to think of other solutions, he hung up after saying “I don’t want to waste my time”. I am certain that the established reputation of this firm is carried on the backs of its employees (the two I’ve spoken to were helpful) not its owner. In the end, I got my van insured as a personal vehicle with even better premium!

Registration thankfully went pretty smooth
